“F. C. Yee’s The Rise of Kyoshi delves into the story of Kyoshi, the Earth Kingdom–born Avatar. The longest-living Avatar in this beloved world’s history, Kyoshi established the brave and respected Kyoshi Warriors, but also founded the secretive Dai Li, which led to the corruption, decline, and fall of her own nation. The first of two novels based on Kyoshi, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar.”
There is a big chance you’ve already seen me raving about this one. It’s a prequel to the cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which, if you haven’t seen it, is amazing whether you’re an adult or a child. It’s one of my favourites, so when the creators announced they were releasing a prequel book, I lost my mind and ordered it that instant.
The difference between this new release and all the others so far is that I’ve read the first few chapters of this and I can already whole-heartedly recommend it. I am fan-girling it up over here!
Kyoshi is a really withdrawn but calm, patient orphan who was taken in by friends of the Avatar, giving her a chance at a life begging on the streets of the Earth Kingdom. I already love her and have put my TBR pile on hold for this book, so expect a review soon.
Where can I get it?
Thanks for reading!
