So, it finally happened.
Last week’s #1 on the Teen & Young Adult Paranormal & Urban Fantasy chart is also #1 this week. Noooooooooo!
I thought this might happen, so I’ve figured out a way to showcase a new, cool urban fantasy book on the charts. It’s revolutionary, you’re going to love it: choose the next book on the list. *brain explosion noises*
There are rules to this method, though. For example, #2 on this chart right now is an audiobook. While I’ve got nothing against audiobooks (despite some issues with Audible in the past. It was a mess, let me tell you), for now, I want to make e-books and print books a priority. Maybe I’ll branch out later.
So, here’s #3 on the charts right now:
The Shadow Student
Oh yeah, it’s an academy book!
They are hot right now, a super popular niche in the urban fantasy genre and these books are literally everywhere. I’m actually writing one right now, no word of a lie. (2020 release people – keep your eyes open!)
Honestly, I love academy books and I have read disturbingly few of them lately. Harry Potter was the first – it totally counts – and the niche has had a re-birth that everyone is getting into.
Coming-of-age supernatural beings discovering their powers and uncovering dark and dangerous secrets at their schools? I mean, don’t you just want to read every single one of them?
Blurb
“My father is dead. And my mother’s enemies smell opportunity. To save us both, I’ll have to navigate the troubled waters of Wraithwood Academy, seeking allies and outsmarting enemies among the heirs to the country’s most powerful mage families.
The vicious, gorgeous Nightfeld brothers think they know me. Cly Redbriar, the weak daughter of a powerful father. A spoiled, scared little girl hiding behind her bodyguard. Nothing but a new plaything for the kings of Wraithwood.
They know nothing.
Because I’ve been forced to live a twisted lie.
See, I’m not really Cly Redbriar…”
Where can I get it?
The Shadow Student is only available in e-book format on Amazon right now. What? No paperback format? Fingers crossed for something we can hold in our hands sometime soon.
Thanks for reading!
Yeah I’ve read quite a few academy books recently. At least a lot of them are fairly unique and not too samey other than the academy thing

Oh cool, that’s good to know. The same old formula can get a bit tired if not done right! I need to read more because I’m writing one right now too 😀 any recommendations?

These are some of my favourites:
Mage Lessons by Illana Waters (standalone but part of a larger series.)
Shadowspell Academy by Shannon Mayer and KF Breene
Kings of Miskatonic Prep by Steffanie Holmes
University of Morgana by Emma Dean.
Arcane Arts Academy by Elena Lawson
Supernatural Academy by Jaymin eve -there’s only the first book out so far but it’s a great starter
Academy of Unpredictable Magic by Sadie Moss
The Obsidian Order by Katerina Martinez (not labelled as being academy as such but it definitely includes a magical schooling type thing)
The Colour alchemist by Nina Walker (there is some schooling stuff in it but only part of a larger thing but it was great so I had to include it)
