Quick, look! I got a tan!
Oh no, wait. It’s gone. I did have one for a second there, though. Honest.
I’ve spent the last week in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where they filmed King’s Landing from the TV show Game of Thrones. It’s just as pretty as you’d expect:
You’d think going on holiday would mean more time to read but actually, we were doing so much that I barely had time to read at all. While I didn’t do much writing, I did start the plans for a mega-series of novels featuring my very first character. I developed her when I was twelve and she has grown with me ever since and I want to finally showcase her story to the world.
While we spent most of our time relaxing and exploring, Dubrovnik lights a lot of creative fires. The history of the place was a little bit lost on my in favour of the fantastical adventures that all the characters from Game of Thrones had there. Also, cat people, you’ll be pleased to know that you can’t move for furry friends looking for fuss and food.
If you’ve read a few of my posts lately, you’ll know I’m super intrigued by a new sub-genre edging its way into popularity: vampire pirates. It’s usually historical paranormal fiction on the high seas and it’s really easy to imagine one of those epic tales taking place in Dubrovnik. In fact, I feel another novel coming on!
If you’ve ever wondered if you should go to Dubrovnik, I’d highly recommend it. Aside from all the amazing water sports you can do, including cave swimming and parasailing, Old Town is an awesome place to explore even if it’s a little commercialised now in wake of its fame. Needless to say, you can find Game of Thrones stuff absolutely everywhere. Be warned, though. You may have to sell your kidney just to eat out here – we had no idea how expensive it would be!
So, after a week of relaxing and doing some extreme sports (if you want to see a picture of me jumping off a 10-metre cliff, click here to see it on my author page!), I’m ready to jump back into writing, blogging and generally being busy. Batteries are recharged and we’re ready to go!
Thanks for reading!
