I’ll admit, I’m on a bit of an Avatar: The Last Airbender binge lately. After reading The Rise of Kyoshi and loving it (read the review here!), I wanted to revisit Avatar. What I didn’t know until recently was that the creators of Avatar made graphic novels carrying on the plot line!
Because they’re a little bit on the pricey side, me and my husband decided to buy one graphic novel a month to enjoy more of these awesome stories. If you haven’t yet watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, I couldn’t recommend it enough. It might be traditionally a kid’s TV show but it’s like Harry Potter: adults can absolutely love it, too.
So, a lot like The Rise of Kyoshi, I sat by the letterbox waiting for this thing to arrive and it’s finally here!
“The Avatar’s adventures continue right where the TV series left off, in this beautiful oversized hardcover of The Promise, from Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and Eisner and Harvey Award winner Gene Luen Yang! Aang and friends must join together once again as the four nations’ tenuous peace is threatened in an impasse between Fire Lord Zuko and Earth King Kuei! As the world heads toward another devastating war, Aang’s friendship with Zuko throws him into the middle of the conflict!”
I don’t read many graphic novels, although I do absolutely love them, and this felt like a great place to start a collection. I’m planning to write a review of this one later this week – it’s so easy to read! Also, apparently whoever wrote this blurb likes to use exclamation marks as much as I do. I feel like I’ve found a kindred spirit.
The best bit about this book is that it’s a hardback – yes, a hardback – and a giant one, too! I was thoroughly unprepared for the size of this book and it is literally too huge to fit on my bookshelf. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset about this in any way. My husband loves order and not being able to fit it on the shelves means we are probably getting a new bookshelf. Which means more books!
If you’re a fan of graphic novels but haven’t seen Avatar yet, I would recommend watching the TV show first. That’s right – you’ve got homework!
Where can I get it?
I got my copy on Amazon and like I mentioned before, this book is only available in hardback format. I seriously love whoever published this book for giving only the one epic format. How are our significant others able to say no?
Thanks for reading!
