Labels were going out of fashion. Then we read about the four Hogwarts houses in Harry Potter. I always fancied myself a Gryffindor but as it turns out, I’m a Ravenclaw!
Ever since then, I’ve secretly loved reading books that have houses or factions that choose their members. It’s always lovely to feel like you’re part of a community, especially with people who have the same goals or think the same way as you.
So, let’s take a look at all the Top 5 Factions and Houses in fiction:
If you’re about to call me biased, you’re absolutely right.
Ravenclaws are supposed to be the “smart” ones but honestly, I think they’re the ones that go looking for the answers to questions they can’t stop thinking about. Tackling riddles, solving puzzles and getting stuck in a good book.
I love Ravenclaw over all the other houses because it seems like the introvert house, the bookworm house and above all: the house that lives in an amazing, book-filled tower! I would pay to live there.
2. Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters
This falls less under the “house” category and more under the “mansion” category.
I wanted to be a part of the X-Men family so badly when I was a teenager. To join a boarding school because I secretly had some awesome, special power that had stayed hidden for years. The core group of the X-Men family are so close and make a kick-ass team.
If the powers and the close-knit friends aren’t enough, there’s always learning to fly the jet that’s hidden under the basketball court!
3. Dauntless – The Divergent Series
Dauntless are crazy.
They’re not just Gryffindor brave, they’re jump off rooves for fun brave and I think that’s what put them on this list. When I took the “Which Faction Do You Belong in?” quiz (you can take it yourself here), I came up as Divergent. Should I start running now?
But if I had to choose my own faction, I think I’d go Dauntless. Adrenaline is addictive and like all the others on this list, the Dauntless seem connected by their purpose. Even introverts like to throw themselves off rooves sometimes. On weekends. Maybe just the once to tick it off the bucket list.
4. House Targaryn – The Game of Thrones Series
The first and probably best reason this house is on the list: dragons. Who can’t love them? If you can’t, don’t talk to me, we have nothing to say to each other. Dragon eggs are pretty, dragons are badass, the Targaryn house is amazing.
Yes, the brothers and sisters do tend to make babies together but that’s actually another reason it’s so intriguing. It’s gross but this list isn’t about the most pious houses and factions, just the best. The crazy factor just bumps the factions up the list.
5. The Water Tribe – Avatar: The Last Airbender
Out of the four nations: the Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes and the Air Nomads in this series, water has to be the best. In each nation, some of their residents have the ability to manipulate an element. The water benders definitely have the edge.
Not only can they control water but they can change the state of it as well, which is more than the others can say. They can turn water into ice and vice-versa, which is, which is super handy if you want to freeze your enemies or dilute your whiskey.
The only downside is that they live in the coldest parts of the world and I don’t know about you, but I don’t know where I’d be without my central heating.
