It’s true what they say, December isn’t a great month for indie authors. The Teen & Young Adult Paranormal & Urban Fantasy chart has barely budged an inch this week. Maybe everyone is too busy buying socks and whiskey stones to buy books? Nah, that can’t be it.
Anyway, I’ve really had to dive down the chart this week to find something I haven’t already featured in this segment but I think I found a cool little gem straight out of the world of The Mortal Instruments.
“The Shadow Market is a meeting point for faeries, werewolves, warlocks, and vampires. There, the Downworlders buy and sell magical objects, make dark bargains, and whisper secrets they do not want the Nephilim to know. Through two centuries, however, there has been a frequent visitor to the Shadow Market from the City of Bones, the very heart of the Shadowhunters’ world. As a Silent Brother, Brother Zachariah is a sworn keeper of the laws and lore of the Nephilim. But once he was a Shadowhunter called Jem Carstairs, and his love, then and always, is the warlock Tessa Gray. And Jem is searching through the Shadow Markets, in many different cities over long years, for a relic from his past.
Follow Jem and see, against the backdrop of the Shadow Market’s dark dealings and festival, Anna Lightwood’s doomed romance, Matthew Fairchild’s great sin, and Tessa Gray as she is plunged into a world war. Valentine Morgenstern buys a soul at the Market and a young Jace Wayland’s soul finds safe harbor. In the Market is hidden a lost heir and a beloved ghost, and no one can save you once you have traded away your heart. Not even Brother Zachariah.”

I read book one in The Mortal Instruments series a long time ago and while I remember enjoying it, I don’t remember it well. The world is super intriguing though and it’s one I’m totally on board with exploring.
This book has a totally gritty, dark, magical vibe going on and I really hope that this niche gets popular because I don’t just love reading it, I love writing it, too. Academy books are on the way out and prison books are on the way in. Who knows, maybe cool supernatural market places will be next? It could happen!
If you want to carry on reading beyond The Mortal Instruments series, you can check out Ghosts of the Shadow Market on Amazon.
Thanks for reading!

I remember the first book being relatively boring but the later books were interesting. Still got the spin offs on my shelf to read. Though I’ll probably have to give the whole series a re read first.

I’ll bear that in mind! Even series with slow starts can end up being favourites I guess 🙂 thanks for the heads up!
