What's on the TBR pile?

What’s on the reading pile? 20/04/2020

What a week this has been!

If you’ve seen any of my posts in the last seven days, you’ll know that Darkness Rising released last week and I haven’t shut up about it since.

Yesterday marked the last day that book sales for the set would contribute to us getting our USA Today Bestseller status and we still have no idea if we nabbed it or not. Later this week I’ll make a mini-announcement just to let you know if we got there or not.

With all the excitement going on this week, I’ve been almost completely unable to read. I managed to squeeze a few pages in here or there but generally speaking, it was a slow week for reading. However, because of all the online socialising I’ve been doing in the last several days, I’ve found loads of cool books (yet again) to buy and some of them are from my set mates.

In fact, this week I found another book by the lovely Scarlett Kol (whose book Wicked Descent I read last year) and absolutely had to get it:

“A girl looking for a way out.
Being the daughter of New America’s leader, Mercury Masters has everything a girl could want. A glamorous life full of beautiful people, and the power to have anything she wants, except for one thing—to escape. Because Mercury’s perfect life comes with secrets to keep. Dangerous secrets that if made public would destroy her, her family, and her father’s reign. Then she meets Hawk.

A boy looking to be a hero.
Hawk, a handsome prep school dropout turned vigilante, has his own family secrets. Deadly secrets that have haunted him since he was fifteen. But instead of fighting the ghosts of his past, Hawk has assembled a group of misfit hackers and thieves to save the future from the corrupt government of New America and the mysterious virus that is killing off its citizens. But trying to do the right thing is tough when the person you really want to save is your enemy’s daughter.

A love that could kill them both.
Powerful forces keep them apart, but coming together could be the key to saving New America from destruction—even though it may cost both their lives.”

I’m getting dystopian vibes and it’s been too long since I’ve read a good dystopian. I might have to deviate a little bit from the urban fantasy kick I’m on now to read this one. Scarlett Kol is known for her paranormal romances so maybe there’ll be a little bit of magic in this one, too.

Definitely looking forward to getting back into the normal routine and now the set is completely finished, I’ll have a lot more time on my hands to work on my own projects and to tackle that TBR pile!

Sneak peek alert, I’m reading a book called The Accidental Witch right now, which is promising to be as good as it sounds. The author is new to me but I’ll talk more about this book during its review next week.

Thanks for reading!
