Reading Catch Ups

Reading Round-Up: 14th – 20th August 2020

I finished Baptism of Fire just in time to post a review this week and I’m a bit annoyed that I didn’t finish it early. I don’t like being on time, that’s cutting it too close. Ahead of schedule is where you want to be.

Luckily, I’ve started reading a book this week that is even more addictive than Baptism of Fire. Hard to imagine based on yesterday’s review but it’s real!

This week’s read is The Shadow of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee, the sequel to The Rise of Kyoshi which I read and reviewed last year.

It’s been a while since I talked about either book but The Rise of Kyoshi is a freaking masterpiece. It’s a darker, grittier prequel to the Avatar: The Last Airbender TV series and if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll really appreciate these books. If not, the show is on Netflix and like I keep saying – you gotta watch it!

When I finally received The Shadow of Kyoshi in the mail, I was super excited to pre-order the next one. I’d waited a year for book two as it was, pre-ordering it a full 14 months before I got it!

That’s when my husband told me that this book series is a duology. I wanted to cry. I’d love to read more about Kyoshi and her adventures, her history is so rich after all. I’ll read both books again one day and love them all over again but her journey is so short.

Still, there will be a review of The Shadow of Kyoshi coming next week and I’m positive I’ll finish it well ahead of schedule.

Just a quick note on the release day for A Druid’s Secret, it was an absolute blast! Thank you for all your support during the run-up to the release and the release itself, it made a huge difference.

When I first released Scorpio’s Grace back in November 2019, I had no clue what I was doing. I’m no expert now but I have a better idea of what to do to release a book and the A Druid’s Secret release smashed all my previous pre-order and release day sales records. It doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things but I’m very grateful to have taken a big step in the right direction towards quitting my day job and becoming a full-time author.

Scorpio’s Grace and A Druid’s Secret are both available on the majority of platforms (not just Amazon). As urban fantasy fans, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them! If you haven’t already got your copies you can get Scorpio’s Grace here and A Druid’s Secret here.

Thanks for reading!
