What’s on the reading pile: Blood and Stakes

Oh boy, I’ve never been so happy to see Monday.

Today I had another 4am start but it marks the beginning of two weeks with minimal working hours. Plenty of time to get back on track with reading, writing and book promotion, all of which I’m behind on.

Better yet, halfway through my husband and me are going back to our hometown for a family birthday. We’ve made the decision this year not to go on holiday because of the pandemic, so this will be a lovely break. Fingers crossed we can make it up next year by visiting somewhere mind-blowing!

I know I say this every couple of weeks but darn, if I’m not determined to get some serious reading done. I’ve targeted some brand new best-selling authors to read and one of these is Laura Greenwood. I just finished a short story of hers and now I’m compelled to read this dark delight:

Discover tantalising tales packed with vampires, hunters, action, and romance in this selection of four first in series vampire stories from The Obscure World.

The collection includes:
Drop Of Blood (City Of Blood #1): Follow spy, Chloe, as she tries to find the information she needs to bring down the vampire-run City Of Blood.

No Stakes Allowed (Grimalkin Academy: Stakes #1): Join Lily, a former vampire hunter about to take her place at the foremost academy for vampire students.

Shattered Illusions (Ashryn Barker #1): Vampire hunter, Ashryn, is the best at what she does…until she’s caught and turned into what she once hunted.

Bite Of The Past (The Black Fan #1): Fall in love for a second time with Catherine and Benedict after they find each other for the first time in 500 years
.”

I decided to get this collection because 1) one of the books in it follows on from the short story First Bite that I’ve just finished reading (review on Wednesday) and 2) because it was free. Not going to make any bones about that, free books are a winner.

This set is a collection of first books in several of Laura Greenwood’s series – this author writes a lot! What a great way to get people invested in more than one series at once. The first book I’m reading in this collection is Bite of the Past, which carries on from First Bite. I want to know more about Catherine and Benedict! (Is it just me who thinks of eggs when I hear this name?)

Who knows, maybe this is the collection that gets me absolutely hooked on the work of Laura Greenwood!

If this collection is still free, you can get a copy here.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I haven’t gotten around to reading any of her million books but I’m subscribed to her newsletter and fb group. The emails are basically daily too lol. She gives away a lot of free audiobooks in her group too.
