This week I resolved to reading full-length books again and I’m happy to say, so far so good. Although, my circumstances have made this so much easier.
Me and my husband moved house last week but I’m not quite done with work here in London. So, I’m back in the old flat for one more week until the lease runs out. While my husband has the home comforts of TV, video games and a kettle (oh boy, do I miss coffee!), I am at the other end of the spectrum.
Sleeping bag on a mattress, living out of a suitcase and eating sandwiches off the back off an ice cube tray. Yeah, I forgot to bring a plate, among other things. Have you ever tried drying off after a shower with a tea towel? It takes a while. But hey, this is a cool little adventure!
Although I don’t have the usual creature comforts, I do have the two most important things that will get me through this week. My e-reader to read and my laptop to write. With all this time to myself, they’re essential to filling every minute. But I’ve noticed straight away that without Netflix and Disney+, I’m reading a lot more already. As of yesterday, I finished half a novel before bed, not to mention the almost finished chapter 6 of Valkyrie Cursed.
So, this is an unusual week. Entertainment and work are overlapping a little bit. Reading is always recreational and writing is something I enjoy doing, but it’s still work. When you love doing something so much and it becomes your job, it can be really difficult to stop. It’s a skill I have yet to perfect and this week is not helping any. But, I’m so grateful to have so much time to read because goodness knows when I’m going to have this opportunity next.
Hopefully, by the end of the week I’ll have read a novel or two and really kick-start reading full-length novels again.
Even now, after we’ve moved and I’m days away from finishing work in London, I still don’t know what the future holds for me work-wise. I’ve agonised for weeks over whether I’ll be able to start writing full time or not and I’m no closer to an answer. This week I’m having a meeting with a manager to discuss it and I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Hopefully by next week I will finally know what December and 2021 hold!
Thanks for reading! Did you know I also write urban fantasy books? Check them out here!
