“Studying at Grimalkin has been Daphne’s dream since she was a little girl.

With her best friend unable to do the simplest spells, her brother determined to find an old family spell to turn them into cats, and hot dates with a vampire, her hands are full enough. Add to that two other guys trying to get her attention, and a teacher that seems to hate her, and Daphne’s school year isn’t quite going to plan…”

My Review

Catching a Vampire follows Daphne, a young witch who had just begun studying at Grimalkin Academy with her twin brother, Ryan. Her best friend Mona has experienced some loss in power since she arrived at the school but Daphne has her own concerns.

After Ryan encourages her to start dating a vampire so he has access to an off-limits part of the school, Daphne realises she is the object of three boys’ affections. Heath, her vampire classmate is her first choice and after one date she already feels like they click. But when her brother’s best friend Cade and her childhood sweetheart Bradley start fighting over her in class, Daphne realises her love life is a lot more complicated than she first thought.

I was expecting a bit more action in this book because of one of the first lines of the blurb alluding to something being quite right at Grimalkin. What kind of school reduces a student’s power? There was a lot of relationship drama which was fun and there was genuine chemistry between characters. But I was hoping for a bit more plot related things to happen and they never really did.

Don’t get me wrong, this was a good book. The characters are well defined and interesting, plus they gelled really well together. It’s a well written story and promises a lot of excitement in future books. I want to know what’s in the catacombs of Grimalkin Academy because something tells me there’s more down there than a spell to turn people into cats. Which is what Ryan’s after, with Daphne’s help.

This was a short, easy read with slow burn romance and a whole lot of mystery. This one will definitely have you wanting to read book two.

Catching A Vampire is currently free on Amazon at the time this was posted, and you can grab your copy at this link if you fancy a good, free academy read.
