This Is The Week

I left my job to become an author six months ago and everything I’ve done in those six months boils down to this week. My husband keeps reminding me the release of Valkyrie Cursed isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of my author career, and it’s true, but the pressure is still there to complete the best book release in my history.

So far, things are going fairly well. Advanced readers have had the book for three months now, and reviews have steadily built up. Getting reviews on Amazon is always tricky, as they have a minimum spend requirement before anyone can leave a review. But so far on Amazon and Goodreads, Valkyrie Cursed has accumulated some pretty good reviews, which eases the nerves a little.

They say the reviews are for the readers, not the author, which is absolutely true and in the future, I want to be confident enough not to look at the reviews on my books at all. But right now, as I’m still finding my feet in this new-ish industry (for me, at least), reviews help me understand where I stand on the indie-author stage.

I’ve been writing on a daily basis since I was twelve years old, but that doesn’t mean I’m any good at it. The “practice makes perfect” sentiment isn’t great for growth, because in reality: “practice makes permanent.” If I write poorly for twenty years while thinking I’m doing something right, the readers are going to say something when I finally publish something.

So, for a little while, I’m going to keep an eye on the reviews. At some point in the future, I’m going to stop looking at them altogether. That’s what the pros do! Hopefully soon I will have a good idea of whether or not I’m a good writer or not in the eyes of the public, and just concentrate on writing books. Plus all the other stuff authors have to do – it’s a long list!

This week will be very different on The Secret Library with none of the regular features. I’m going to be focused on the Valkyrie Cursed release, which I’ll be showcasing later on this week. The book is going to be on sale for a few days this week, and I want to make sure that when I showcase the book, everyone can get it at the best possible price. So, keep your eyes open for a post later on this week that will let you know when and where to get it.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for reading! Check out my urban fantasy books here!
