Banishing The New Release Jitters

In one month’s time I will celebrate the day I worked my last shift at the supermarket and started working towards becoming an author. My first book wouldn’t be published until July, which gave me seven whole months of preparation and getting into the swing of things before I kicked off this series.

When I first started, I didn’t think I’d ever get used to the publishing process. From concept to actually pressing “publish” online, there are a million things in between that must be done, and until you’ve done them several times, it’s easy to doubt yourself.

As I prepare to publish the third book in The Rogue Valkyrie series, Valkyrie Unleashed, I’ve noticed that the final stages of publication are not as fraught as they used to be. The hours of fretting over every page before I dare send it to the formatter in case I missed typos are now just hours of work that feels like a job. It’s normal, it’s part of the every day, and no, finding a typo once you’ve sent it isn’t the end of the world.

When you’re creating something, whether it’s a book or some awesome Etsy products, you want it to be perfect. Perfect is a human construct, and as such, the perfection we hope to achieve is our construct. It means nothing to anyone except us – unless you’ve got a boss like Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada. But as Anne Hathaway found out, even those expectations mean nothing when you really think about it.

It’s taken nearly a year, but I’ve finally learned that while perfection means nothing, quality does, and you can make a few mistakes on your way to achieving it.

I’m so excited to have reached another personal milestone in feeling that there’s an area of authorhood in which I might have gained substantial confidence. Or at least, enough confidence that I’m not obsessing over one task for so long that checking it becomes obsolete. In fact, I’m really looking forward to the release of my next book.

Valkyrie Unleashed will release on 26th November 2021, the third book in The Rogue Valkyrie series! Pre-order your copy at this link here!

If you haven’t started the series yet, get Valkyrie Cursed, here on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
