News and Updates

The 2022 Forecast

If I haven’t mentioned it already, November was “National Novel Writing Month” which challenges writers to write 50,000 words in one month. For the first year ever, I didn’t make it, and it had me a little bit gobsmacked. This is literally my job now, how come it didn’t happen?

There are a few reasons, one of which is that Valkyrie Unleashed released this month, which meant I had at least five days of the month that I couldn’t write. Turns out I could really have used those five days because I was only short about 5,000 words in the end.

But, just a few days into December, Valkyrie Betrayed was finished, edited, and sent to my editor. Book four is officially drafted!

December has a tendency to slow things down, but apart from taking some breaks for sanity’s sake, I intend to use December to get a head start. Book five planning is a little behind, and I’ve still got to finish a prequel by the end of the month. Not to mention laying the foundations for the Patreon that will launch in January – there’s still a lot left to do this year.

The good news is, I’ve got organisational systems and marketing plans set up and ready to go, which means that come January, I’ll be ready to start hammering out the rest of this series with a brand new outlook.

While I’m a bit hot and cold about the idea of New Year’s Resolutions, because we pretty much accept that it’s okay to ditch them even a week after making them, this year feels like a good time to drum up some new goals. Spending the entire of December making sure I have a solid foundation for my newsletter, series, and new endeavours when 2022 rolls around.

Maybe it’s just the post-sending-book-to-editor highs, but I’m feeling kinda optimistic about the holidays and 2022. I find New Year’s Resolutions stick more when I prepare for them and considering December is going to be all about setting the stage for the new year, I’m hopeful!

If you’re planning on making New Year’s Resolutions this year, I wonder if the preparation model would also work for you. If we’ve spent some time preparing for our new goals, there is a chance they might stick. I for one am not slowing down for a few more weeks, but luckily I have a husband and mother-in-law who will absolutely insist I take a break when Christmas rolls around.
